MSC.Software, the maker of simulation products and provider of related services for industry, is the first out of the box with a Linuxc distribution aimed at Intel's new Itanium 2 processor.

And the UnitedLinux distribution will support the Itanium 2 processor, the consortium of four Linux vendors announced Monday.

The Itanium 2 is aimed at shaking the RISC chip's hold on high-end server applications. It was officially rolled out Monday.
