ION Announces New Itanium2 1.4GHz Server with 3 MB L3 Cache
    Tuesday April 13 2004 @ 08:43AM EDT

Hauppauge, New York, ION Computer Systems, Inc. today unveiled its I2X2hpc. This new compute engine is based on a pre-configured Intel® Server Platform, SR870BH2, a dual processor design incorporating two of the newly introduced Intel® Itanium® 2 processors at 1.4GHz with 3MB of L3 cache. This new system is designed to deliver optimal business value for high performance computing (HPC) applications.

The pre-configured I2X2hpc is 40% lower in cost than a similarly configured I2X2 introducted last year with dual Itanium 2 processors at 1.3GHz. processors. The price is about the same as a similar configured Intel® Xeon™ processor DP at 3.2Ghz with 2MB of cache.

The I2X2hpc can be tailored to meet individual customers’ needs utilizing the ION Configurator tool, which offers online configuration guidance, pricing and ordering through the World Wide Web.

“The I2X2hpc delivers outstanding performance at a reasonable cost, and could possibly be the deciding factor for those customers comparing the price / performance of Intel Xeon™ processors and Itanium® 2 processors,” according to Paul Scheremeta Vice President of Marketing at ION.

As an added service, ION offers technical and benchmark information on all their products, with links to specific manufactures sites, as well as on-line evaluation services, as an aid to help customers with their decisions based on the collected data.

For over 12 years, ION has developed solutions designed to help customers take early advantage of the latest technologies and highest levels of performance.

Those interested in benchmarking access can e-Mail ION at itanium2@ioncomputer.com The Configurator is available to all at http://itanium.ioncomputer.com * Other brands and trademarks are the property of their respective owners.
