Scali Is Partner Proven For HP Proliant Servers With AMD Opteron Processors
    Wednesday April 21 2004 @ 10:52AM EDT

Oslo, Norway - April 21, 2004 - Scali, a leader in high performance clustering solutions, announced today it is certifying Scali ManageT and Scali MPI ConnectT for HP ProLiant DL145 servers based on AMD OpteronT processors. The software package is initially being certified for high performance Linux-clusters from HP running Gigabit Ethernet, Myrinet®, SCI and InfiniBand® interconnects.

Certification of the HP ProLiant DL145 expands performance and design flexibility for Linux-clustering

Scali's MPI and cluster management software is designed to reduce the complexity of running a mix of leading platforms and interconnects within a high performance cluster environment. By leveraging Scali's software, customers can seamlessly integrate the AMD processor-based platform with existing systems without experiencing the traditional issues associated with introducing new standards.

"Scali already supports HP's Intel-based platforms so certification of ProLiant servers with the Opteron processor is an excellent addition," says Håkon Bugge, CTO at Scali. "High performance computing customers running 32-bit applications benefit from increased performance and memory availability as well as a smooth migration strategy to 64-bit computing."

The Opteron processor offers increased performance for many customers running 32-bit applications. Traditionally, these applications have been able to effectively address approximately three-quarters of the 32-bit address space. With the Opteron processor, the 32-bit application can access the full 4GB of memory when the operating system executes in the native 64-bit mode.

"We see a large degree of excitement around Opteron-based Linux clusters in the HPC market," says Bjorn Skare, President and CEO of Scali. "Delivering industry-leading innovation for high performance clustering includes certification of the leading platforms and technology that are adopted in the marketplace. By supporting HP ProLiant servers with Opteron processors, Scali is perfectly aligned to offer the leading platforms for truly heterogeneous cluster environments."

"Scali's platform independent cluster software gives HP customers the flexibility to adopt industry standard AMD Opteron-based HP ProLiant servers into their existing environments with ease and cost efficiency," said Winston Prather, vice president and general manager, high performance technical computing division, HP. "HP offers the most comprehensive portfolio of industry standard platforms running Linux, bringing increased return on investment and flexibility to end users and independent software vendors like Scali."

The integrated Opteron offering is designed to address the needs of customers in government agencies and universities, as well as in the life sciences, oil and gas and automotive design industries.
