Foundry Networks Powers SC06 High Performance Computing Conference

Foundry Selected as Core Router Provider for SC06 SCinet Show Backbone and Participates in Bandwidth Challenge with University of Tokyo

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 13, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Foundry Networks(r), Inc. (Nasdaq:FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, today announced its participation at SC06, the premier international conference of high performance computing, networking, storage and analysis, November 11-17 in the Tampa Convention Center, one of the best-connected sites on the planet. Foundry will supply equipment for the show's SCinet high-performance backbone network and participate in the SC06 annual Bandwidth Challenge with the University of Tokyo.

Foundry's award-winning NetIron XMR Series routers will power the SCinet high-performance show backbone. Identified as the first 2 billion packets per second chassis designed for future growth with 40 and 100 GbE interconnects, the NetIron XMR Series addresses the needs of high-performance computing and service provider environments by offering a unique combination of advanced service delivery capabilities, high-versatility, superior port density, and increased traffic capacity. At the show the NetIron XMR routers will deliver 10-Gigabit connectivity and wire-speed IPv4 and IPv6 routing services, including support for multicast, IS-IS, BGP and OSPF protocols, to the world's leading high-performance computing networks in addition to providing connections between exhibitors for joint events throughout the convention center.

The University of Tokyo scientific team (booth No. 1949) will use two Foundry's BigIron RX-8 switches for this year's Bandwidth Challenge. In contrast to past SC Bandwidth Challenges, this year SC06 will focus on the ability to fully utilize one 10-Gigabit path, end-to-end, disk-to-disk, from SC06 in Tampa back to an organization's home institution, using the actual production network back home. The BigIron RX Series, with its highly dense and compact design, is an ideal IP solution for high-performance computing environments where non-blocking, high-density Ethernet switches are a fundamental requirement.
