QLogic Corp., the only end-to-end provider of host adapters to switched fabrics for storage and high-performance computing (HPC) networks, today announced that QLogic InfiniPath® Host Channel Adapters (HCAs), version 2.0.1 and above, will support the Intel Message Passing Interface Library (Intel MPI Library). MPI is the Message Passing Interface that programmers use to make a program run on thousands of processors, and share data and messages among them. By supporting the Intel MPI Library, QLogic HCAs now interoperate seamlessly with applications from the numerous Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) who currently test with and support the Intel MPI standard. Customers of these ISVs can now deploy those applications on top of InfiniPath HCAs to solve their most complex problems in reduced time and scale their solutions more efficiently on large clusters.
"Our InfiniBand customers will benefit from the ability to use Intel's proven technology for job execution on their Linux-based clusters," said Scott Metcalf, general manager, SIG Business Unit, QLogic. "In addition, our collaboration with Intel will allow ISVs to avoid the expense of testing and supporting yet one more unique variation of their applications for Linux clusters."
The Intel MPI Library: Flexible & Powerful for Developers of Cluster Applications
The Intel MPI Library delivers a flexible, multi-fabric-enabled message-passing interface for developers and users of cluster applications. It also provides a high-performance implementation of MPI-2 standard functionality.
InfiniPath HCAs: The Performance Leaders for Cluster Interconnect
Available for servers with Hyper Transport and PCI-Express slots, InfiniPath HCAs are the performance leaders for cluster interconnect. Interoperability with the Intel MPI Library allows users of compute-intensive software applications that run on Linux-based clusters to use industry-leading QLogic InfiniPath InfiniBand Adapters. They can use a cluster's shared-memory servers to streamline communication and multi-protocol execution of MPI-based HPC applications in fields such as oil reservoir simulation, weather modeling, computational fluid dynamics and finite element analysis.
