SALT LAKE CITY, June 30, 2003 - Linux Networx announced today a benchmark validation for the Intel(R) Itanium(R) 2 processor running on the Intel(R) SR870BH2 server platform. As a leader in cluster technology, Linux Networx uses its benchmarking capabilities to test and evaluate new products for clustering. Intel's SR870BH2 server platform supports dual Itanium 2 processors, and is a good option for customers who desire 64-bit cluster computing.
"Linux Networx is a resource- and knowledge-center for evaluating new clustering technologies," said Joshua Harr, Linux Networx CTO. "Linux Networx ran the Linpack benchmark on the Intel SR870BH2 server platform and achieved over 8 gigaflops using Intel's Math Library. With the Intel SR870BH2 validation, Linux Networx will be assisting customers and ISVs to develop and benchmark their code on Intel Itanium 2-based platforms."
Linux clustering is a method of linking multiple computers together to form a unified and more powerful system. Linux Networx and Intel have worked together on several large cluster installations, most notably on an 11.2 teraflops cluster at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, which currently ranks as the third fastest supercomputer in the world (www.top500.org).
"Intel is excited about the capability Linux Networx provides to benchmark and validate Intel's new products," said Phil Brace, director of marketing, Intel Enterprise Platforms and Services Division. "Having both the resources and Linux clustering expertise to test and evaluate various clustering-related products is a valuable asset to Linux Networx and their customers."
