ION Computer Systems® introduces New Class of Intel Itanium 2 -based Servers
    Tuesday July 01 2003 @ 01:36PM EDT

ION Computer Systems announces the release of I2X2 Server, based on the Intel® Server Platform SR870BH2.

ION’s I2X2 is a 2U (1.75”) rack mount server will support up to two (2) Intel® Itanium® 2 processors. The processors powering these servers are based on the newest Itanium 2 processors that support speeds up to 1.5GHz+ and 6MB of level 3 cache. The I2X2 is also supported by ION’s Configurator, which offers online configuration guidance, pricing and ordering through the World Wide Web.

“By incorporating the Intel server platform SR870BH2 in our I2X2 design, ION has reduced the overall time to market and cost of validating solutions while ensuring that the crucial cooling requirements of these powerful low profile rack mount servers are met,” says Paul Scheremeta, Vice President of Marketing at ION.

“ION benefits today’s Itanium 2-based system users with code porting and benchmarking servers running Windows® and Linux®,” said Keith Josephson, Chief Technical Officer at ION. “The ability to upload a sample program and data, compile it and test it gives potential users an immediate sense of the advantage that the I2X2 and the Itanium 2 processor bring to their applications.”Many people using high performance computers are aware of the Itanium® 2 processor now, but few know for sure how their application will benefit,” said Keith Josephson, Chief Technical Officer at ION. “ION addresses this question with Itanium 2 processor-based code porting and benchmarking servers, running Windows® and Linux®. The ability to upload a sample program and data, compile it and test it gives potential users an immediate sense of the advantage that the I2X2 and the Itanium 2 processor bring to their applications”.

ION prides itself in our ability to work with software companies as well as individual customers, to port and optimize their applications. We provide them the means to upload their software over a secure connection on one or multiple test systems. The test systems can be configured online to mirror what their actual hardware requirements are, enabling our customers to make valued decisions based on the results of their tests. Offering these services to our customers greatly reduces the expense and time in making valued decisions, without any interruption within their organization or IT department.

For over 10 years, ION has developed solutions designed to help customers take early advantage of the latest technologies and highest levels of performance.

Those interested in benchmarking access can e-Mail ION at itanium2@ioncomputer.com The Configurator is available to all at http://itanium.ioncomputer.com Intel and Itanium are trademarks or registered trademarks of Intel Corporation or its subsidiaries in the United States and other countries.
