MSC.Software Announces Strategic Agreement With Livermore Software Technology
    Wednesday July 30 2003 @ 03:20PM EDT

SANTA ANA, Calif. -- MSC.Software Corp., the leading global provider of virtual product development (VPD) products including simulation software and services, and Livermore Software Technology Corp. (LSTC) today announced an agreement to co-develop LSTC's flagship product, LS-DYNA and to embed LS-DYNA within MSC.Software core solvers including MSC.Nastran 2004, MSC.Dytran and MSC.Marc. LS-DYNA is a general-purpose finite element program, which simulates complex engineering situations. It is widely recognized as the world's leading analysis tool for simulating automotive crashes and other high-speed interactions.

"Manufacturing companies are challenged to find ways to bring new, innovative products to market in less time without relying on building and testing many physical prototypes to ensure product performance," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software. "These companies are rapidly moving toward a Virtual Product Development environment that relies on simulation models to virtually determine product behavior and performance at all phases of the development cycle. Product development engineers don't want to piece together software tools to help them meet their requirements. They want one trusted partner to provide integrated technology solutions. Our new agreement with LSTC gives MSC.Software customers the best portfolio of tools for simulating stress, durability, crash, occupant safety, and NVH. We are committed to being the go-to provider for all VPD simulation technologies."

"The combination of LS-DYNA and MSC.Software products will greatly expand the scope and complexity of problems that can be solved by MSC.Software customers. The combined software will enable MSC.Software customers to obtain scalable solutions for problems in transient dynamics, which include crash and drop testing, and will utilize distributed memory computers running under Linux, Unix, and Window operating systems," said John O. Hallquist, President, LSTC.

The combination of LS-DYNA and the MSC.Software product portfolio gives manufacturers the ability to combine complementary types of computer simulation including stress and fatigue analysis, NVH, crash and high speed interactions, occupant safety and many others. The first MSC.Software products that will be embedded with LS-DYNA are MSC.Dytran, MSC.Software's proprietary crash software which is used extensively in the automotive industry to test occupant restraints and airbags, and MSC.Nastran 2004, the world's leading simulation and finite element analysis (FEA) product used by manufacturers around the world to simulate loads, stresses, and vibrations of mechanical systems and components. The first MSC.Software products to include LS-DYNA technology will be available in late Q4 of 2003.
