MSC.Software Professional Services Team Works with Canadian Transit Supplier to Prove New Bumper Concept, Exceed Safety Standards and Justify Tooling and Prototyping Costs
SANTA ANA, Calif. - August 14, 2003 - MSC.Software Corp. (NYSE: MNS), the leading global provider of virtual product development (VPD) products including simulation software and services, today announced that Toronto, Ontario, Canada-based Talfourd-Jones Inc. (T-Ji) was able to prove a new bumper concept, exceed safety standards and justify tooling and prototyping costs by using VPD tools and the expertise of MSC.Software’s Professional Services team.
“VPD tools used early in the design process are a very powerful way to ensure that companies are making the right investments in product development,” said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software. “Our work with Talfourd-Jones is an excellent example of the ways in which VPD software tools and our professional services offerings can help companies justify product development investments and ensure that the those products are developed as fast and as cost efficiently as possible.”
In order to comply with federal safety regulations and justify the investment in tooling required to manufacture a new bumper system, T-Ji had to prove both that the ‘Reflex Bumper’ concept would work and that the cost of manufacturing would allow for a healthy profit margin. The MSC.Software Professional Services Team was able to not only prove the bumper system concept, but also help T-Ji refine a more stable design that would exhibit better repeatability characteristic and be easier to manufacture.
“We could not have made such a sizable investment on speculation that our design might work. Virtual testing was an absolute must, in view of the significant tooling costs,” said Bill Cherry of T-Ji. “By performing virtual tests, many more designs could be evaluated in a shorter period with significantly less cost.”
